Shameless Congressional propaganda

Our IN-2nd district representative Jackie Walorski (@RepWalorski) recently asked for personal stories about health care, and she renewed the request the next day, both times in neutral language in spite of the fact that her other social media messages relentlessly criticize, perhaps even demonize the Affordable Care Act and any who defend it. Then something must have slipped in the central office, because the third call for stories no longer hid the point of view that she wanted to hear from her constituents: she only wants stories that confirm her position:

  • Higher premiums or cancellation notice due to #Obamacare? Tweet me at #JackieListens to tell me your story.

And along the way the @RepWalorski tweets have been retelling stories of people who say they are put into one very bad spot or another by the Affordable Care Act. Oddly, though, the folks who share positive stories--some of which are plainly visible to us on Twitter--are never given a spot in Jackie Walorski's Twitter feed. She retells the stories she likes and ignores the others, for example this one contributed by John Monczunski (@augenblick456):

  • @RepWalorski I'm a senior citizen. [The ACA] fixed donut hole for me. My Obamacare wish is that Congress stop partisan grandstanding. Work for USA!

Some people are starting to use her own Twitter hashtag #JackieListens to protest, and @IndyBend coined this counter-slogan:

  • #JackieListens if you agree with her.

Since our representative asked for stories via Twitter, I offered this true story:

  • T and C of South Bend were uninsurable, so they moved to Costa Rica for health care. Now they have come home to the USA. #JackieListens

But I don't see any reason to believe that she does actually listen. She copies and sends out emails and tweets that she agrees with and ignores the rest. She chants slogans blaming the other party for everything. She has forgotten her claims of non-partisan problem-solving and abandoned her one truly non-partisan effort to reduce sexual assault in the military, as far as I can tell from her media offerings. It has taken her such a short time to learn the worst of Washington's ways. Or maybe she knew them already.

PS. I'm thinking about getting some bumper stickers printed to match the image at the top of this posting.
